National Museum of Natural Science

The National Museum of Natural Science is one of the most popular touring and recreational sites in Taichung and one of the most frequently visited museums in Taiwan. With an area of 22 acres, the National Museum of Natural Science houses six distinct venues excluding the Earthquake Museum in Wufong. The venues include the Space IMAX Theater, Life Science Hall, Chinese Science Hall, Science Hall, Botanical Garden, and Global Environmental Hall. In addition there are over 30 exhibition areas that cover an array of subjects like astronomy, ecology, tropical plants, and gems and minerals. The Space IMAX Theater is one of the most popular spots for the visitors; the half three-dimensional doom tilting at 30 degree, display model of the galaxy. In addition, at scheduled time, it also has shows.

The National Museum of Natural Science also features a special rotating exhibition and hands-on exhibitions for adults and children of all ages. Due to its educational quality and characteristic, the National Museum of Natural Science has been a major science learning center for school trips in Taiwan.

After the earthquake of September 21st, 1999, an Earthquake Museum was established 10 kilometers east of the National Museum of Natural Science in Wufong as a division to enrich the understanding of earthquakes and to remind people of the earthquake disaster of September 21.
