Alishan Forest Recreation Area

Alishan Forest Recreation Area is located at the end of Alishan forest railway, and it is the most famous scenic spot in Alishan. Its climate does not have that much difference between four seasons. The average temperature is about 10 degree Celsius, which makes Alishan a great place to get away from Taiwan’s hot and humid summer.

Alishan Forest Recreation Area has the largest wood made train station in Taiwan established in 2007. There is an observatory in front of the train station. Therefore, once you arrive in Alishan Forest Recreation Area, you can see the famous sea of clouds and many other breathtaking views such as sunrise and sunset depends on the time. In addition, you can see the cliff of Ta Mountain, which is the Tsou’s sacred mountain.

Since the Alishan road was opened in 1982, Alishan Forest Recreation Area has become a very popular scenic spot for Alishan tourism. Alishan Forest Recreation is a great place for bird watching. The main bird watching trail is the annularity path in the recreation area, and it is a four kilometers long path surrounded by forest. Moreover, many Alishan hotels and restaurants were started to run their business, which make Alishan becomes a popular shopping district.

The recreation area is divided into two parts. The west side is Ciyun temple and the east side is the divine trees area. There are many attractions you can go in Alishan Forest Recreation Area, so you might want to stay here for couple of days. At the Chiayi North Gate Train Station, take the Alishan Forest Train to the mountain.
At Chiayi City, take the county-owned Chunghua Express Bus directly to Alishan.
At Taipei West Station, take the Taichee Express Bus bound for Alishan.
